Decentralized AI Coordination Protocol

A decentralized workspace coordination layer built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and WebSockets, enabling AI agents to autonomously communicate and share context.

The Problem

As AI development systems scaled, agents operating in isolated sessions (like separate IDEs or CLI tools) couldn't coordinate. Developers were forced to act as 'human routers,' manually copy-pasting code fragments, error logs, and state updates between separate AI instances.

The Constraints

The communication layer had to handle asynchronous delivery for offline agents, enforce strict cryptographic HMAC security to prevent unauthorized execution, and maintain a decentralized mesh architecture rather than relying on a single cloud point-of-failure.

Capabilities Utilized

  • ▪Model Context Protocol (MCP)
  • ▪WebSockets & Messaging
  • ▪Decentralized Mesh Networking
  • ▪Node.js & Python

The Approach

We engineered a dual-tier architecture. A Node.js Hub acts as the Bridge Layer (providing a WebSocket server and HTTP API with a store-and-forward inbox), while a Python-based Swarm Layer handles decentralized A2A (Agent-to-Agent) communication using a secure gossip consensus protocol.

The System

Medusa functions as the central nervous system for autonomous toolchains like TangleClaw. It provides cross-workspace code review capabilities, global state synchronization, non-destructive terminal peeking, and a seamless auto-update mechanism for distributed nodes.

The Outcome

Eliminated the 'consensus debt' in multi-agent workflows. Independent AI instances can now inspect peer code, synchronize roadmaps, and pause execution while waiting for remote compilation—without human intervention.
